Our August Calendar of Events is full of opportunities to catch your imagination. Gentle Chair Yoga classes continue on August 1, 8 and 15. We also offer programs for gardeners, including Make Florida’s Rainy Season Work for You; the Volunteer Master Gardener Program; Florida Friendly Landscaping and Creating Your Edible Garden. Volunteers, Friends of Venice Library and Board Members all enjoyed our July 20 Ice Cream Social along with hearing Renee Di Pilato, Sarasota County director of libraries and historical resources, speak about Intellectual Freedom. The event was well attended. All told Renee how much they appreciated her message. She also told us about the more than 200 Learning Events taking place at Sarasota County libraries this summer as well as what’s new, including a pop-up library on wheels this year and a county history center coming in 2024.

Suprise! Library Gets $1.1 Million

A 96-year-old woman left $1.1 million of Home Depot stock to the Friends of Venice Library. Joan Hrachovina, 96 died December 16. She was a regular library patron and supporter of community services.

Wow! Our July calendar is filled with new and exciting ways to dodge Florida’s summer heat.

Start the month learning gentle stretches with Chair Yoga classes. (Classes run Tuesday mornings from July 11 through August 15.) Or perhaps you prefer relaxing with friends at the movies instead. Check out what’s showing on July 13 and 27. On July 18, outdoors types may enjoy spending time listening to Patrick Lui about our miles and miles of beautiful biking and walking trails. Theater, sewing, the great outdoors, movies, yoga, book club or genealogy. Be sure to check out this month’s calendar of events for details.

We have a little something for everyone this month. from an Open Sewing Class on June 6 to Painting a Watercolor of your Pet on June 27. With a chance to discuss Outer Banks by Anne Rivers Siddons with fellow book lovers on June 14 or watch a movie on Thursday, June 8 or June 22.

The Friends of Venice Library Board Member Kristopher Geddie will be awarded a Shining Star Award this summer by the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology (AACT) for his significant leadership and service on a national level.

Calling all crafters, watercolor artists, music lovers and those who enjoy meditation, be sure to look through our Adult Calendar of Events going on at the Jervey Public Library this month. You’ll find two pages with lots of fun programs with the time and date of each. We can also help those who are working on their family tree. We look forward to seeing you this month.
