From Deborah Kostroun, Bookstore Manager

“I'm so excited to share with you the results of our "Christmas in July" sale this past Saturday (July 12 from 10 to 3). It was certainly one of our most successful one-day sales. We sold more than 1516 sale books. Income from the sale helps us sustain the vital programs, services and resources the library provides for the community.

“Booklovers were waiting outside the front library entrance before we opened. Library staff said many people mentioned they had never been to our library before coming to the sale. And many of those also took out library cards that day! So great!

“I thank all the wonderful volunteers who worked so hard with setup on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning; other volunteers who staffed our sales desk and still others who stayed after the sale closed to return books to shelves in our storage area.

“In short, the sale would never have worked so well without each volunteer’s hard work and dedication to supporting the library.

“Thanks, too, for everyone who publicized the sale with flyers, signs and articles throughout all available media outlets. We certainly enjoyed a great turnout as a result of those efforts.

“The Friends of the Venice Library has wonderful volunteers. I am so proud to work with each of them. Together, we are able to do so much for the library along with the ongoing generosity of the Venice community for donating so many gently used books to our bookstore.”
